YACHT DESIGN PROCESS
When a client or client’s representative approaches Elliott Marine about a new design we use a time tested and structured approach tailored to each project depending on requirements. This ensures the brief, design & engineering due dillegence, budget and timeframe all meet with client satisfaction.
Client or client’s representatives meet with the designer to discuss the project and establish expectations. The designer will assist to identify requirements and develop the client’s brief. Whilst an “in person” meeting is ideal, discussions can take place using the client’s preferred method of communication.
2D Drawings and concept 3D renderings are completed. Some engineering and design feasibility also forms part of these concept drawings.The drawings form a basis of discussion with the client and can go through several revisions; fine tuning concepts to create the ideal craft.
Costing Phase
A clear and specific costing package is produced. This serves as a bid package for boat builders and suppliers. It includes technical construction drawings with a focus on achieving feasibility testing, costings and timings.
The base design has now been approved by the client and a builder selected. All detailed analysis will be completed and work begins on the detailed construction drawings and engineering. The complexity of the design will determine the timing and while this is a labour intensive phase smaller projects can be completed quickly. All detailed construction drawings will be ready to hand over to the selected builder.
Elliott Marine also offer a project management service to oversee the boat build. This includes liaison with the boat builder and other suppliers ensuring steady build progress, support and mediation if required. Upon launching Elliott Marine will assist with sea trials.
